When Jesus bent his knees

In the garden of Gethsemane

To God above his sorrowful plea

“Let this cup pass from me.”

While on the cross he lay

Heartaches and pain on his body

He bore it all on Calvary

For my sin, for me

Jesus wondered what this cup will be

That which waits on the tree

His prayer before his slay,

“Father forgive them (they are astray).”

The time came for him to see

This cup will soon be empty

Marvelous surprise! Sorrowful discovery!

The wickedness and abominations, the sins of the world he carry

On the cross he bowed silently

His love overcome his disappointment in me

To suffering and death he submitted obediently

Indeed, the call of the cross was too heavy

But he answered, “Yes” for me
